Paris 2014: The Bell Tower of Saint-Germain l’Auxerrois

We were riding on one of the L’Open sightseeing tour buses one day last May and we just exited the Louvre and were heading down the Quai Francois Mitterrand when I caught this shot of the bell tower of Saint-German l’Auxerrois:

Town Hall of the 1st Arrondissement and the St Germain L'Auxerrois bell tower.

Town Hall of the 1st Arrondissement and the St Germain l’Auxerrois bell tower. The buildings are on the Place du Louvre just east of the museum.

I thought the building to the left of the bell tower was the church but it is actually the town hall (mairie) for the First Arrondissement of Paris. The town hall facade looks very similar to that of the actual St Germain church which is located to the right of the bell tower and not in the photo. The Romanesque bell tower was built in the 12th century but was transformed into the Gothic style when it was restored in the 19th century.

This will be my latest entry to Laura and Leanne’s weekly Monochrome Madness Challenge over on Leanne’s website.
