MM 2-40 — Barcelona’s Barri Gotic in Monochrome

The Barcelona Cathedral is surrounded by several Gothic palaces, most of which have been turned into museums.  On our walk around the cathedral last October I paused to take this shot of the courtyard in the Palau del Lloctinent which now houses the Arxiu de la Corona d’Arago (archives of the Crown of Aragon). This will be my entry this week for Leanne Cole’s Monochrome Madness Challenge.

The Palau del Lloctinent is on both the Placa de Sant Iu across from the Museu Frederic Mares and the Placa Del Rei across from the Museu d’Historia de Barcelona (MUHBA). It was built in the 1550s to be the residence of the Spanish viceroy (lloctinent) of Catalonia.  Since 1853 it has housed the archives of the Crown of Aragon. These documents span the period between the 12th and the 20th centuries.

Don’t forget to drop by Leanne’s website to see what other photographers are doing in monochrome this week.
