Monochrome Madness 3-08

Our plan for one day during our recent trip to Scotland was to visit both the Edinburgh Castle and the Holyrood Palace on the same day. So we climbed to the top of the hill and toured the castle and then walked all the way down the Royal Mile to the bottom of the hill to visit the palace but it was closed!

Edinburgh's Holyrood Palace was closed the day we visited. Prince Charles wouldn't let us in.

A friendly police officer on our side of the closed gate explained to us that Prince Charles sneaked into town when we didn’t notice and there’s a rule that the palace is closed to visitors whenever a member of the Royal family is present.

So I stuck my camera lens between two iron bars on the closed gate and took this picture of the palace with an unfriendly police officer on the other side of the gate glaring at me. And that’s as close as we got to visiting Holyrood Palace!

I don’t know what the other guy in the photo is doing. It looks like he is holding a walkie-talkie. Maybe he is reporting to Prince Charles on the old American couple who appear to be storming the gate!

Leanne Cole has suggested that CLOSED be the theme for this week’s Monochrome Madness Challenge. Please drop by Leanne’s website to see how other photographers have interpreted her theme.

  1. I love walking the Royal Mile down to Holyrood and the park. There’s a great pub close to there- The Tollbooth Tavern. Great shot Crow!!

    This is fantastic

  3. GP Cox says:

That look on the officer’s face caught my eye before the view of the palace. I knew you had to be in the wrong place at the wrong time……

  4. Great image for the Theme this week Crow! Good grief what’s the harm in taking a photograph! They do look stern don’t they!

Don’t they lower the flag or change it when a Royal is in residence? They do at Buckingham Palace…I’m pretty sure I heard that on our tour there.

  5. Pesky Charlie ruining your plans! 😉
