We left San Francisco on Wednesday afternoon, May 4th and arrived in New York that night. On Thursday evening we got through the TSA Security at Newark Liberty International with about an hour to spare. So I walked around and took some pictures. Here’s the first photo I took on our vacation.

And I took this one a few minutes later:
On Thursday night we took a United flight from Newark to Edinburgh and we arrived in Scotland on Friday morning, May 6th.
So what did we do during our one day in New York? We rode on a bus. And then another bus. And then another.
Due to a flight scheduling error by yours truly we found ourselves at JFK Airport on Wednesday night and we needed to get to Newark Liberty the next day. So we took the hotel shuttle back to JFK and then the shuttle bus from JFK to Midtown Manhattan where we transferred to another shuttle that took us to Newark, New Jersey. It was a somewhat interesting ride as we passed many places we had never seen before. But it took three hours!
We saw the new World Trade Center for the first time that Thursday. Our last trip to New York was in 2007. We visited Ground Zero on that trip and all we saw was a huge hole in the ground. Now the tallest building in the western hemisphere stands there!
It only took us one long day to get back home from Scotland. We flew from Glasgow to Dublin on Tuesday morning, May 24th, and then from Dublin to San Francisco on Aer Lingus, arriving at SFO at 3:30 in the afternoon California time but 11:30pm back in Scotland.
