MM 211: Douro Cruise Boat

We just boarded a boat that looked similar to the one in the foreground of my picture when I decided I just had to take a photo of the boat we were gliding past with Porto’s Ribeira district in the background. This will be my entry to Leanne’s Monochrome Madness Challenge this week.

One of many cruise boats waiting quietly at its berth along Porto’s Ribeira wharf to take another band of noisy tourists on a one-hour cruise up and down the Douro River.

Click on the photo to see a larger version of the photo.

The buildings in the middle of the photo stand proudly in front of Praza da Ribeira and along Cais da Ribeira. That’s Porto’s Se Cathedral on top of the hill to the left and the Episcopal Palace on the upper right.

Australian photographer Leanne Cole hosts the weekly Monochrome Madness Challenge. Drop by her website on Wednesdays (Tuesdays in North America and Europe) to see what Leanne and other photographers from all over the world are doing in monochrome these days.

Leanne suggests a specific theme for the first week of every month. Her theme for next week is Boats. I took a lot of pictures of boats that day in Porto last year and I will share one more of them with you for next week’s Challenge.
