A few announcements:
Ten years ago today I uploaded my first posting on my new WordPress blog.
And here we are 520 weeks and 638 posts later! Yes, I’m still here though I have to admit that I have not been too active lately.
This blog is full of photo stories about our travels during the last ten years but we have been locked down in Crow Canyon since mid-March and so we don’t travel anymore and I seldom pick up a camera these days.
I still plan to post once in a while — perhaps once or twice a month — but I would like to also announce that I have turned most of my attention lately to another of my favorite interests — genealogy — and have decided to build another blog focusing on my family history.
Long-time followers of my blog will recall that I have combined my genealogy interests with travel as we visited the places where my ancestors lived — my Thelers in Germany in 2012, my Bolducs in Paris in 2014, my Muckles in Northern Ireland in 2002, 2009 and 2019 and in Australia and New Zealand in 2011 and in New York and Canada in 2007.
Now I am concentrating on my Dwyers and McAuliffes who left Ireland and settled in San Francisco long ago.
My new blog is called The Dwyers of San Francisco and you can find it here.
My great grandfather James O Dwyer, born in Tipperary, Ireland in 1844; died in San Francisco in 1896.
One more announcement before I close this post: One of my long-time followers, Disperser, has recently posted two slideshow guidelines on how to get back to our precious WordPress Classic Editor and avoid the horrors of the new Block Editor.
Highly recommended. See here and here. I followed Disperser’s tips to produce this post.
You can find that first post I published way back on October 10, 2010 here.
Oh, and thanks to all who have followed my blog all these years!
Congratulations on making it to 10 years. You have very varied family origins must be fascinating researching it all. And I too am not enjoying the Block Editor.
I checked out your new blog. It looks like you have some very interesting and exciting work to do in the coming years. I also share your concerns with the new block editor and will check out the links you provided to get back to the classic version of WP.
Congratulations on your 10-year blogging milestone!
Congrats. So, you started only a few days later then I did 😊 https://solaner.wordpress.com/2020/10/01/happy-anniversary-to-me-and-you-2/ thanks for the tip with the classic editor. I‘ll compare it with my approach to cope with the annoying block editor. I‘d also recommend writing a complaint to automattic. They need to know, that their users hate it!
Congrats on a decade, whoah! And thanks for the editor tips, will definitely check them out!
I’m using the new Block editor and learning to use it and live with it.
Good luck in your new endeavor. I’ll stop by to see how it’s going.
Glad the posts helped. I think that after a few posts, using the block editor (and even blocks other than the Classic block) will be second-nature.
Oh, congratulations on 10 years.
Weird, it won’t let me “like” any of the family history posts.
Uh-oh — all of those pages on my new site were published before you published your guidelines. I suspect there are a number of glitches in those pages. They most likely got there because I was unknowingly creating new blocks when I assumed that I was still in an old block. I need to check this out.
CCJ: I recall “meeting” you first in 2013 when you mentioned I had passed near your home when beginning our return to NJ from my cross-country trip in 1967. (I had started posting earlier in 2013.) I’ve enjoyed your memorable posts ever since, admiring you detailed descriptions and wonderful photography of you travels; including places, churches, and family. Thanks for your continued support, and I’ll be looking forward to your future posts. M -:)
Thanks, MV! I also have enjoyed your photo stories these last seven years! As I recall you were the first person to ever have nominated me for a blogging award! And I believe you are my only follower from the state of New Jersey!
Big congrats! 😃
Thanks to all for the well-wishes! I love the two-wayness of blogging. People from all over the world follow my blog and I follow theirs. It’s been fun!
Congratulations! Thank you for sharing wonderful photos and stories.
